About our Attraction

Waiuku has a great tourist attraction with the opening of the Waipipi Bird Park in Waipipi Wharf Road. For Ron Peake, this is the culmination of ten years of hard work, as he and his wife Amily worked on their 16 acres of farmland, transforming pasture into an avocado orchard and six acres of gardens and aviaries. Many of the 300 parakeets, lorikeets, parrots, cockatoos and conures have been hand-reared and for the past few years Ron has also been buying birds from all over New Zealand to produce breeding pairs.
Apart from building the 70 aviaries, Ron has planted an extensive garden with trees and shrubs to attract native birds as well as fruit trees, bottle brush and olive trees to help provide food for his bird population. Two ponds have been created, home to a variety of ducks and swans.

Major Mitchell Cockatoo. With its soft-textured white and salmon-pink plumage and large, bright red and yellow crest, it is generally recognised as the most beautiful of all cockatoos.
South American Sun Conure (yellow one). Sun conures are a species of parrot that originated in South America. Sun conures are one of the most brightly colored kinds of parrots. Includes the word "sun" in reference to their almost entirely yellow and orange coloring.
Ron and the Sulpher Crested Cockatoo Charlie. He is the popular star in our bird park, and a very good talker and is very funny.
